Given at Castle Wars 2016. 9x12". All modern materials, but I wanted to share this because I had such a fun time with the boustrophedon. I flanked my mistakes with dots for a pseudo-period "my bad" since, you know, mistakes are still period. The translation was done by Lord Camulocaros Bodogenicnos into Classical Greek for his lady's AoA, Lady Apollonia ton Athenon. It was later signed by the Crown, but I forgot to snap a photo after that.
Given Nov 12, 2016. 11x14". Made on pergamenata; initial applied with modern pigments turned into ink & done with mix of dip pen & paintbrush; calligraphy with Adela's oak gall ink with dip pen; based off of a middle period manuscript I need to track back down.

Made on real, medievally prepared, parchment (THL David), sketched with lead-tin stylus (modern lead:tin ratio), inked with cut goose quills and Adela's oak gall ink (Palatino's recipe), flat gilding with garlic juice, 24k gold double leaf, vermilion (red), lapis lazuli (blue), and lead white. And yes, I missed a leaf. It's driving me CRAZY.

Made on real, medievally prepared, parchment (THL David), sketched with lead-tin stylus (modern lead:tin ratio), inked with cut goose quills and Adela's oak gall ink (Palatino's recipe), raised gilding with hand-mixed gesso (non-raw honey), glat gilding with garlic juice, 24k double weight gold leaf, white gold leaf (to avoid tarnishing w silver), vermilion (red), and carbon black (badges/Arms).

This was the entry for the 1 wk Wordsmith - Scribe - Herald relay at the first Bardic War (2021). Master Lorenzo Petrucci was the Wordsmith & Master Mathias Blackett was the Herald. Mostly modern materials on (2) 8x10" pages. Poem & scrolls based off of Charles d’Orleans, Royal MS 16 F II.

Crossroads 2018, Scroll memorializing Sigmund Malovich, 'Banishing' him forever to Sail the Seas as a Meridian Privateer. Based on a sorta-close-to-period cadeaux. Because he would have thought it was cool. Cartridge pen on perg, 11x14"

Awarded to Lazarus Gauge at Meridian Challenge of Arms 2017. 11x14". Oak gall ink and shell gold ink on pergamenata. Border from Rechenbuch and miniature from a fencing manual I need to go look up again.
Gifted to Countess Ellawin at Castle Wars 2016 to honor her late husband, Earl Richard RaeFen. Richard is a hero among heroes and a saint among mortals. 8x10" perg. The gold leaf is 24k double weight on boiled stout. This was done with a mix of modern and period paints and is based off of several ~13thc depictions of Martyred, Beatified, and Sainted Crusaders. Some of his more common expressions were translated by Lord Camulocaros Bodogenicnos into Classical Latin.
10x13". October 18, 2015. Based off a 13th c. Jewish manuscript. European protogothic calligraphy. Cut quills and Adela's oak gall ink (Palatino's recipe), flat gilding with garlic juice, 24k gold leaf, lapis lazuli (blue), terre vert (green), lead white, carbon black.
Awarded as a prize for the Rose Tourney at Meridian Grand Tournament 2014. 8x10", done on pergamenata with oak gall ink & dry pigments (modern). Fragment of Cattle Raid of Cooley. Translation: Fair, of deeds, the man I see; Wounded sore is his fair skin; On his brow shines hero's light; Victory's seat is in his face! ~*~ Noblest face is his, I see; He respects all womankind. Young the lad and fresh his hue, With a dragon's form in fight!
